A painter of seascapes, portraits, and figures, Safford's style is best described as romantic realism. The rendition of a subject in its precise place, light and moment is interpreted through the artist's knowledge and appreciation for its uniqueness Some of his paintings show a whimsical, fantastic interpretation of a scene but always true to the last detail.
