Paul Lucien Maze, an Anglo-French painter, was renowned as one of the great artists of his generation. Known as “The last of the Post Impressionists", Maze utilized oils, watercolours and pastels, his subjects varied from French maritime scenes to busy New York City scenes and the serene English countryside.
It is worth noting that Maze and Winston Churchill crossed paths during the First World War while serving in the trenches. They bonded over their mutual interest in painting and went on to develop a lasting friendship. Maze acted as Churchill's artistic mentor, inspiring him to develop his drawing and painting techniques.
