David Miretsky was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1939 and received his academic training at the Kyiv Art Institute. After being threatened with arrest and having his artwork confiscated by police, he moved to the United States in 1975. Surreal in subject, this painting reflects on the famine he experienced and the bread lines he witnessed, in addition to a strong focus on individuals, showing his interest in human character.
